His distinctive style – a unique combination of funk\, jazz\, soul\, and pure virtuosic technical skills – has solidified his reputation as one of the most significant and influential bassists of our time. \nShaping the Sound of Modern Music \nWhile Miller is often celebrated as a world-class performer\, he has had an equally significant impact on the careers of some of the most iconic artists of our time. His work with Miles Davis\, jazz saxophonist David Sanborn and R&B singer Luther Vandross is legendary. Throughout the 1980s and 90s\, Miller was the primary architect of David Sanborn’s career – he wrote the majority of Sanborn’s hits during this period and produced the albums that helped define a new era of contemporary jazz. By blending sophisticated R&B grooves with world class improvisation\, Miller created a unique sound for Sanborn that became an international phenomenon – a blueprint so influential\, it remains one of the most widely emulated sounds in the genre today. \nThe Luther Vandross Years \nMiller was also a cornerstone of Luther Vandross’s legendary career. Serving as Vandross’s primary songwriting and production partner for over 15 years (from 1983 through the early 2000’s)\, Miller co-crafted a string of timeless hits\, including It’s Over Now; Til My Baby Comes Home; The Night I Fell In Love; See Me; Any Love; Power of Love; Don’t Want To Be A Fool; and For You To Love which resulted in a staggering 13 consecutive platinum-selling albums. Together\, along with pianist/arranger Nat Adderley Jr.\, they defined a golden era of romantic soul characterized by a sophistication and musicality that remains unmatched today. Marcus and Luther also collaborated on hits for Aretha Franklin\, Dionne Warwick\, Teddy Pendergrass\, and the Temptations. \nFilm & Television \nParallel to his work in the studio\, Miller has enjoyed a prolific career in film and television composition as well. His portfolio includes scores for urban classics such as House Party (Feat. Kid ‘N Play – 1990); Two Can Play That Game (feat. Vivica Fox\, Gabrielle Union\, Morris Chestnut\, and Anthony Anderson – 2001); Marshall (feat. Chadwick Boseman – 2017); the Chris Rock cult classic Good Hair – 2009. He is a five-time Grammy award winner; a past recipient of Holland’s prestigious Edison Award for Lifetime Achievement in Jazz; in 2024 he was honored with a Lifetime Achievement award from the Los Angeles Jazz Society; he has been voted ‘Best Electric Bassist’ by Downbeat Magazine and Bass Player Magazine on numerous occasions and was recently honored with Bass Player magazine’s Lifetime Achievement Award (2026). He is the 2019 recipient of the prestigious Miles Davis Award from the Festival de Jazz de Montreal\, recognizing his role in the continuing evolution of jazz; the Artistic Medal of Distinction from the French Ministry of Culture in 2024\, and was also presented with Monaco’s Commander of the Order of Cultural Merit in 2018. This is the highest cultural honor in Monaco and was presented to Marcus in a ceremony officiated by Princess Caroline of Monaco herself\, in recognition of Miller’s significant contributions to the arts and music\, particularly his influence on the global jazz scene. \nRecording Artist\, Broadcaster & Host \nAs a solo artist\, Miller’s own recordings include 13 Grammy-nominated albums\, including the Grammy award-winning M2 \, which won for Best Contemporary Jazz Album in 2002. DESCRIPTION:While pursuing his JD and MBA at Georgetown\, he independently produced and distributed his first CD (Lessons in Love)\, which sold more than 40\,000 units; a phenomenal success for an unknown independent artist’s debut release. This album helped him launch his career as a renowned jazz keyboardist/pianist\, and later\, he released his second CD (Inter Alia)\, with staggering success \nThis success caught the attention of Black Entertainment Television (BET) founder and businessman Robert L. Johnson\, who invested and partnered with Marcus to establish Marimelj Entertainment Group. Under their partnership\, MEG’s label Three Keys Music housed Studio 8121\, a full-service recording studio\, and two music publishing companies: Marimelj Music Publishing and Three Keys Music Publishing. \nAs head of Three Keys Music\, Johnson produced and released on the Three Keys Music label national jazz artists: Michael Lington\, Jaared Arosemena\, Bobby Lyle\, Nick Colionne\, R&B singer\, Alyson Williams\, neo-soul songstress\, Zahzarah; and smooth jazz Saxophonists Phillip Martin and Brian Lenair. \nTo date\, Marcus has released more than fifteen Billboard charted CDs\, and has the distinction of having his groundbreaking 2008 Billboard Top 20 Contemporary Jazz FLO (For the Love Of) Anthology\, which consisted of three distinct CDs — FLO Chill\, FLO Romance and FLO Standards – all chart Top 10 on Billboard Contemporary Jazz Charts simultaneously. \nThe release of Poetically Justified (2009) and This is How I Rock (2011)\, which were Top 20 Contemporary Jazz CDs\, solidified Marcus Johnson as the heir apparent to the funky urban groove music style and sound made famous by legendary jazz greats\, George Duke and Herbie Hancock. \nBuy your tickets and reserve your table today. \nTWO AMAZING SHOWS! 7pm and 9:30pm \nFor 7pm tickets\, click here! \n  \n
